The smallest room in the apartment had the best light, so that became the “studio.” Since sales were few and far between, the paintings were piling up all around the room. The floor was covered with linoleum and if the front painting slipped, the whole row would slide into the middle of the room. Clare would crawl along the floor precipitating an occasional avalanche.
